  • <h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Carrying bike on tongue is an option

Carrying a bike on the tongue of the travel trailer is an option, but only if you are not concerned about tongue weight. There are bike racks made for the tongue, but two bikes and the rack could add 150 pounds of weight to the tongue. Too much tongue weight can affect steering the tow vehicle.

On the Other: Bike racks can go on the back as well

A bike can be attached to the back bumper, as well as to the tongue or to the ladder. If you are concerned about tongue weight, use one of these other areas. There are bike racks made to attach to these areas that work nicely and you won't add weight to the tongue.

    Bottom Line

It is alright to carry up to two bikes on the tongue. Use a bike rack made for this purpose. If you are concerned about tongue weight, carry the bikes on the back bumper or the ladder. There are bike racks made for these areas as well.
