  • Whether you're moving or sending mail to a new post office box, changing your billing address is important. This allows creditors to continue sending you bills in a timely manner to the right place. There are several ways to change your billing address. Having a quick guide can help.

    Change Online

Changing a billing address online is usually quick and easy. If you don't already have an account with creditors, register on their website. Once you've registered, most creditors will have a "change billing address" tab in the account settings. Input your new billing address information and save. Usually, an email will be sent confirming the address change.

    Change by Phone

Another method for changing billing address information is contacting each of your creditors by phone. The customer service representative will ask some questions to ensure you're the account holder, such as your mother's maiden name or a personal security question you've set up. Once they've confirmed your identity, the address change usually becomes effective right away.

    Change Directly on the Bill

Billing addresses can also be changed directly on your monthly statement. Most bills have a check box that says "new address" and lines underneath where you can write in new address information. Mail your current bill with the address change information and the new statement should be sent to the new billing address. Just to be sure the company received the new billing information, call a couple of weeks after it's been sent. This will ensure the next statement is sent to the correct address.

    Form Letters

Form letters announcing your billing address change is another way to notify creditors of the new address. On the form, include your current billing address, account number, phone number and new billing address information. Also, make sure to sign the form letter.

    Postal Service Address Change

After you've notified creditors, change your address with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). This way, if a company doesn't change your address right away, bills will still arrive at your new address. The USPS has an online form to fill out, which costs $1. After the form has been completed, an email is sent to your address.
