The victim's family are a better judge of the cost than I am!

I say that I'd like to see where you get your "facts".

And if it's true.... they should STILL be executed.

I think your numbers are messed up.
Firstly it costs 50k dollars a year for a prisoner, 600k dollars only gives you 12 years in jail.
Now, the death penalty cost, the US government should try to implement a rule where they only give the DP to people who the judge is 100% sure they are guilty, then give them 2 re-trials and then just kill them, and make all this happen in less than a year.
That would reduce the cost by millions!

My response is: a tree and a rope are much cheaper, and put their executions on pay per view to raise the money for the states,I bet Don King could make it work. I think spending so much money for the prison system is a waste. Even the people not on death row, why should they have so many comforts in prison? Tax money should go to the law abiding citizens, not the ones who are destructive to the communities.

That's not the exacution. An exacution is actually very cheap. Hell, a bullet is only .75 cents. It's the appeals that are so expensive. And, boy, do lawyers like that appeals processes. It's why they fight so hard to keep it. They like taking tax payers' money to file apeals for guilty monsters. Also not just death row inmates file appeals. By your reasoning we shouldn't put anyone in jail because it costs us money when they file an apeal or we might put an innocent man behind bars. And honestly it could cost $100 mill and if it meant people like Ted Bundy got what they deserved, the victems and their family's got justice, and the commumity was protected I wouldn't give a fiddler's fart. After all all of that money we spend just goes right back into the economy instead of sitting in the government's coffers. Oh, and that life sentence your so found of doesn't really mean life. The average life sentence is only 20 years and then they're back out among us on parole. Hope you can sleep easy knowing that.

I'd say I disagree with your numbers, and would ask you to provide evidence to back them up.

I say most of the people put on death row should be shot in the head the minute they're taken out. Of course, there's the chance they're innocent... meh, minor problem.

So is the victim's life worth 25 mil or 600,000? I still believe there are evil people in this world who are not going to change no matter what.

I would say you are distorting the truth. First, the cost is only $25 million when you have a wealthy convict. And second, that $25 million is paid by the convict, not the tax payer. It is true that indigent convicts on death row get a free attorney, but that attorney is a public defender making $60k a year and handling numerous appeals.

Also, this statistic assumes that only death row convicts appeal their convictions. The reality is that most convicts appeal their convictions. Thus, it is just as expensive for the courts whether you are convicted for life or sentenced to death.

Therefore, with the exception of the few inmates who spend 50 years waiting for their appeals to dry up, it is cheaper to kill someone than lock them up for life.

I'm pro death penalty but if I could change the system anyone sentenced to it would be sentenced to life at slave labor in a coal mine or quarry, without the possibility of parole. The remote possibility of a painless death fifteen years in the future wouldn't deter ME from killing someone, but the immediate certainty of having to load five tons of coal before breakfast, another five before lunch and another five for an evening meal would deter almost anybody from almost anything.

Well one those facts sound like they were heavily exagerated, and also maybe it wouldnt cost so much if we just used a bullet (50 cents a round usually) instead of expensive drugs. Another thing is the fact is deathrow inmates usually waste alot of money cause of so many appeals, all the years of waiting on deathrow, and so on and so forth. If there is solid evidence against them they should be executed within a year of conviction.

Obviously we need to reform, simplify, and limit the appeals process.

    REFORM!

Drag them out immediately after the verdict is read & lay them down with in 3-5 minutes after verdict is read!

No where near as difficult as their making it.

However, these cops also must be held responsible for all the innocent people as well.

So if the cops fry someone that is innocent, they then should fry for playing God, but too dumb to know their dumb. Now that is dumb!

I bet most of that 25 million is spent on appeals process, waiting on death row, etc. Not on the actual death penalty. Cut the fluff and take them out within a week.
