Research has shown that without proper care, reusable soft contact lenses and contact lens cases can become home to bacteria such as S. marcesens, S. liquefaciens, P. aeruginosa, Aeromonas hydrophilia, or Stenotrophomonas maltophlia, which can be found in tap water. These thrive in moist areas and can lead to serious corneal infections when transferred from the lens to the eye.
