Some retirement plans can be cashed out well before you're ready to retire, but it depends on your plan. Many pension funds will not release the money until you're of retirement age. If you have a 401(k), IRA or other sort of fund, you can generally get that money. Be warned: early withdrawal results in steep taxes and fees.
