Having a college degree may be a necessary qualification for job advancement or military officer training. And as more prestigious universities begin to offer online courses, the lower status of an online degree is fading.

On the Other: Limited Options and Diminished Value

Some degree programs are still not available in online formats, so you may have fewer choices. And there are plenty of less prestigious and even fraudulent online schools that can diminish the value of your degree.

    Bottom Line

Determine your needs and goals for your degree. If you require prestige and an academic focus, an on-campus degree may be better. If simply obtaining the degree is your goal and a relevant program at a recognized, accredited school is offered, your online degree may be just as valuable as a traditional degree.
