    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Blacksmiths from the 15th century are responsible for designing the waffle maker; however, the idea may have come from a customer. Thomas Jefferson brought the first waffle iron to America from France in the 1790s. In 1869, Cornelius Swarthout patented the waffle iron.
