According to the US Department of Labor, as of mid-2009, the United States Federal Minimum Wage is $7.25 per hour for "covered, non-exempt employees." Covered employees work for a company that does at least $500,000 of business per year, hospitals, schools and/or government agencies. "Housekeepers, full-time babysitters and cooks" are also covered. Some drivers, sales professionals and others are exempt.
