American cars are strongly built for the most part, but are thisrty on gasoline, if an american car is economical on gas, I definetely buy it.

Before any large purchase, I look at periodicals that have statistics on repair history. I want to buy the best with my hard earned money!

If the design or reputation was equal for for all cars I would shop by price alone. I always consider the quality of a car but I also look at the value I get.

I was looking for a used toyota pickup truck recently because they have a very high reputation for quality and durability and I didn't end up buying one because the price is way over inflated. I ended up buying a toyota 4runner instead because I found a really good deal. If the 4runner hadn't come along I would have started looking for a Ford F150 despite the lower quality, since their prices are really good compared to any other truck new or used.

Consumer Reports rated the 2006 Honda Odyssey slightly higher than the 2006 Chrysler Town and Country SE (2007 test results weren't reported), but I really liked my 2005, so I stuck with Chrysler for my 2007.

Ironically, my first car had an Isuzu engine and it had so many troubles that I have not bought Japanese since.

I don't buy foreign cars personally but my husband does. I really don't care who designed it as long as it's still made in the USA.

Design ain't everything. I buy Avalons, since 1995, because they are medium priced, get fair gas economy 27-29 MPG, use regualr gas, and are still a large, very comfortable car.

I would give it some consideration. but, i do not believe american auto makers can build and design an automobile to compete with the Japanese. they have had many years to perfect just one american-built auto, but have failed.

Take a test drive in a Toyota or Honda, then test drive any ameican-built auto. there is no comparison. japanese autos outshine and outlast ameican-built autos at least 20 to 1.

I would give it a consideration, but i do not believe it will ever happen.

IF they were designed better AND they were priced better, then yes.

If they were designed and priced comparably, I'd consider it.

However every American car I have owned so far has been less reliable and more expensive (both in purchase and repairs, even on a per-repair basis) that my Japanese or German cars. Additionally, new American cars bear the legacy costs of the short-sighted management practices of their manufacturers.

Therefore, I don't see it happening in my lifetime.
