I am mormon and i want to know how to ansewr the hard cult and pylygamy questions when my friends ask them

I fail to see how a mormon would post this question on a public forum, instead of asking his minister and friends in the faith.

I am assuming that you are of the Latter Day Saints Faith, more cominly known as the Mormons and not RLDS, I am not any of them but have read the book of mormon and am very familiar with the Christian Bible, the 'Mormons' are not a cult and they don't practice polygamy, because they are Christians who believe in the Christian Bible they follow its teachings also, which commands that you abide by the laws of your state (country).

Divert their attention by pointing out that Mormonism is really about hating homosexuals, just like Christianity is.

Instead of looking at it as a hard cult or pylgamy questions explain to your friends or whoever asks you for that matter what it means for you to be mormon and how you practice your religion. Be open and honest about it and from my expereince ( having friends who are mormon)not all mormons have multiple wives,or sticlty marry mormons, etc, if your upfront with your friends i feel its the best policy. If they don't agree with it then that is not your problem if you feel strongly about your religion embrace it. However if you are really struggling to find ways to answer them perhaps ask your elders. If they truly are your friends they will respect your decison about your choice of religion.
