Question

Help answer this question below.

I am going to upgrade my graphics card. I currently have a nVidia GeForce 6800, and want to know whether to buy the ATI X1950 or the nVidia Geforce 7950. The ATI has 512 MB of DDR2 memory, but the nVidia has 256 MB of GDDR3 memory. Which should I buy?

Geforce 8800 ultra 2 of them. These things are unstoppable, I have thrown everything at them possible, even my 3 SGI visualization superframes have a hard time keeping up(they eventually blow past the 8800's, but not by much)

nVidia has 256 MB of GDDR3 will be give you definat better results than ATI with 512 MB DDR2 as it's a vector graphics memory.

But out of that I'll prefer you BFG Tech NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB DDR2, check below

Currently most of game will work smooth only on 1 GB, DDR3 1 GB is very expensive but this one is quite good and will cost you same as nVidia 7950.

You can also look at below customized search

Both of those are fairly good cards, but make sure that you get a good brand (like BFG for nvidia) look for good customer service. it might not mess up, but if something does happen you want to make sure that they are able to fix it. besides you should go for the nvidia with ddr 3 but make sure you mother board supports it.

what is your budget? why not get the 7950 GX2? those perform extremely well too! If cost is not THAT much of an issue, 8800 GTX to beat any and ALL competition.

Sorry, I'm not seeing the same specs you are. There are 4 models of ATI's X1950 available. The GT uses GDDR3 and the Pro, XTX and Crossfire models use GDDR4 memory. It is important to know which model you're comparing, because they range in fill rate from 6000 MTexels/s at the low end (GT), to 10400 MTexels at the high end (XTX and Crossfire).

On the nVidia side of the house, the 7950GT is better on paper, putting out 13200 MTexels/s in a card that's $100 less. So I'd be leaning toward the GeForce.

    P.S.: I own the 7950GT.....

I'd certainly choose the ATi one. It did better on the benchmarks, as one can see on these pages:

Also, I have a personal preference for ATi over nVidia.
