Based on trailers released for the second movie and hearsay, the sequel to the first operates in the same universe (unlike the TV series), the second movie, GITS 2: Innocence, looks practically like the first movie, and it posesses all the same qualities as the first movie.

i would have to disagree, i thought the two were slightly different, more in the animation. i saw the second movie a while ago and i think it was based in the t.v series, not the original movie
