My friend rents a room without a lease agreement. He wants move out, but the landlord doesn't let him go. so he refuses to pay rent. in the case of Minnesota Law, what should he do? does my friend just can leave without paying? does he can get deposit back?

If a tenant is evicted during the tenancy, can the evicted tenant be held responsible for rent until the unit is either rerented or the originally lease expires?
