The prescription medication Clobex contains the corticosteroid clobetasol propionate and comes in the form of a cream, lotion or shampoo. Doctors commonly prescribe Clobex for the treatment of the skin condition plaque psoriasis. Doctors reserve the use of Clobex spray for instances when psoriasis covers more than 20 percent of a patient's body, reports the U.S. National Library of Medicine. The shampoo form treats moderate to severe psoriasis on the scalp. Both the spray and shampoo versions of Clobex function by suppressing your immune system, decreasing the allergic response in your body that leads to plaque psoriasis outbreaks. To use the spray, doctors typically recommend dispensing a thin layer of the medication directly to the affected areas of the body twice per day and then rubbing it in thoroughly. The shampoo form should be worked into a lather, left in place for 15 minutes and then rinsed, explains the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Normally, a course of treatment with Clobex lasts for two weeks and generally is not used for more than four weeks, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Because the corticosteroid in Clobex is highly concentrated, the medication poses a risk for side effects when used for prolonged periods of time. These risks include high blood sugar levels, hypothalamus or adrenal glands dysfunction, or allergic reactions.Indications
