There two principal types of breast cancer that appear as lumps in the breast. They are ductal carcinoma and lobular carcinoma. Ductal carcinoma, as suggested by the name, is found in the ducts of the breast, while lobular carcinoma is found in the lobules.
Ductal Carcinoma
Cancerous lumps in the breast identified as ductal carcinoma are in the ducts of the breast that carry milk.
Lobular Carcinoma
A lobular carcinoma breast lump originates in the lobules or the glands in the breast that produce milk.
What is it?
Cancer is an abnormality in the genes that are responsible for growing healthy cells. Unchecked, these abnormal cells will continue to grow until they form a malignant tumor.
What Happens?
Healthy new cells replace old ones that have died. When an anomaly occurs in a cell, it doesn't die on it's own. It divides and spreads. When it happens in the breast, it's Breast Cancer.
How Many Stages?
There are four stages of Breast Cancer. The bigger the number, the more serious the cancer.
What is Metastasize?
Metastasize is when cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
