Due to the large purchase prices, the real estate industry can be a difficult industry in which to work. To be successful in the real estate industry, salespeople must have specific qualities and skills that encourage their clients to purchase property.
Motivation
According to Michael Abelson, owner of real estate company Abelson & Co., the best real estate salespeople are the ones who have "an absolute passion to succeed." Many other top real estate executives share this view; self-motivation is the best quality to look for in a real estate salesperson.
Assertiveness
A real estate salesperson should be assertive, willing to lead and direct a sales transaction, and firmly communicate her point of view to potential sellers. However, a real estate salesperson should not be aggressive, which hinders the selling process.
Empathy and Creativity
In the real estate industry, empathy and creativity work simultaneously. A salesperson should have empathy, which allows her to relate to her client's unique needs. Then, the salesperson should use her creativity to find solutions for those needs.
Sociable
Real estate salespeople must be extremely sociable and friendly towards others. Building relationships with strangers is a necessary part of the job.
Patience
Real estate salespeople also need to be extremely patient. When buying real estate, many clients need a significant amount of time to find the property that works best for their needs; a salesperson must not try to rush this important process.
