Business class seats on a flight are a step up from coach in terms of comfort and amenities. Many airlines offer business class seating for both international and short-haul flights.
Definition
Business class is upgraded airline seating. Most airlines offer coach or economy seating as a base level, business class as the next level up and first class as the best. For some airlines that have moved to a two-tier seating system, business class has replaced first class.
Location
Airlines differ, but business class seats are always grouped together. The business class section could be the first rows of seats, the rows behind first class seating or occasionally in the back of the aircraft.
Features
Business class seats offer more leg room and a wider seat than economy-level seating. Amenities such as complimentary food and beverage service, television screens, laptop power ports, toiletries, blankets and pillows might be included, depending on airline policy and the duration of the flight. Business class also will have more cabin staff available to service passenger needs.
Considerations
Business class tickets are more expensive than economy or coach seating. Depending on destination, season and airline, business class tickets can cost 50 percent more than economy tickets.
Potential
Frequent fliers are often upgraded to business class at no charge.
