  • "Sample size" includes the number of participants or objects in a research study. Researchers use this sample size to represent a larger proportion of their study.

    Demographic

The most troubling aspect of conducting a study is accurately formulating a sample size that will net meaningful results. Sample size depends on many variables such as the location and economic status of your sample. Choosing an accurate demographic is an important process of formulating the sample size.

    Economic

A researcher's sample size may target a specific demographic such as economic status. For example, how many people in low-income housing use recreational drugs. In this case, the researcher focuses on economical circumstances to investigate the correlation between drug addiction and poor living conditions.

    Budget

Researchers need a bigger budget if they want to include a bigger sample. In other words, the budget amount, first and foremost, sets the limitations of the study.

    Size

Researchers risk waste of money and resources if the sample size is too large, but if the sample size is too small the research may net insignificant results.

    Solution

Determine sample size by first estimating the confidence interval and confidence level of your sample. The confidence interval and confidence level set parameters for your study by estimating a given range of percentages based on the confidence of your samples' answers. The confidence level is either set by 95 or 99 percent. Most researchers choose 95 percent.
