  • Blackheads are caused when your skin's natural oil collects and hardens in your pores. If you have large pores, you probably have blackheads. There are many expensive treatments and products for treating them. But some inexpensive options work just as well.

    Steam

As a first step, steam your face to open the pores and loosen the oil. Put some very hot water in a large bowl, put your face above it and put a towel over your face to trap the steam.

    Mild Soap and a Washcloth

Warm water and soap help break down the solidified oil, and the washcloth acts as a scrub to dislodge the oil plugs. Just don't scrub too hard---you could damage your skin.

    Salicylic Acid

You can buy an inexpensive solution that contains salicylic acid. It helps to shed the outer layer of skin to expose the blackheads.

    Benzoyl Peroxide

Apply a product that contains benzoyl peroxide. It will continue to break down the plug even after you have washed your face.

    Drink Water

Keeping you skin hydrated can help prevent the blackheads in the first place. Drink plenty of water to help your skin stay healthy.
