Both oak and granite come in many different colors. Red oak has a slightly reddish hue while honey oak is quite yellow and white oak is a very light tan, almost white color. Granite comes in more than 60 colors and in several grades. You can find granite with gray hues, black hues, brown hues, even some blue, gold, and red hues. With white oak cabinets the lite brown granite accents the oak. With red oak you could look for a maroon hued granite. With honey oak a golden granite is truly beautiful.

On the Other: Try a Real Contrast

If you are an adventurous decorator a black or dark brown granite will provide a startling contrast to the light colored oak woodwork or cabinets. Even a dark blue can offset the light colored wood.

    Bottom Line

This is your project. While most decorators seem to prefer the light colored granites with oak, there are people who claim that the contrasted colors add a real vibrancy to a room. One last consideration may be cost. Different grades of granite have very different prices. So if cost is an issue be sure to investigate the price of the color that touches your aesthetic soul.
