  • There are a great number of camera cell phones on the market from flip phones to smart phones to go phones, all with their own set of proprietary (and confusing) ways of doing things. Features like transferring pictures or data between your phone and a PC can be particularly tricky. Thankfully, there are some standard ways of using the higher functions of most cell phones.

    E-Mail

If the phone in question is internet capable, you can always e-mail pictures to yourself. Simply send yourself an e-mail with a picture from your PC as an attachment. Once you have sent the e-mail, open the e-mail on your phone and download the attachment. This method will allow you to send one or two pictures easily and quickly, but will not work if you are trying to transfer large amounts of data. Try to keep the attachment level at two or three pictures.

    Instant Message to Text Message

AOL's free Instant messenger software allows a computer to communicate with cellular phone numbers directly through text capable phones. If your phone has text messaging enabled, simply send your phone number a message from your AOL instant messenger account. This will open up a dialogue between your phone and your computer. Once the connection is made, send a picture to the phone number and it will appear on the phone as a picture text. Again, this method only works when sending a low volume. If one picture at a time just isn't your speed, there are other ways.

    Direct Connection

If you have a USB data cable for your phone, you can connect your phone directly to your PC. Most phones now come complete with a compact disc full of software for connecting your PC to your phone. If your phone did not, it is usually possible to find software from the phone manufacturer by doing a web search for your phone's model number or by going to the phone manufacturer's website. While there are many different programs from different phone providers, most work with the PC by creating a folder in "My Documents" for your phone's data. When you plug your phone into the USB port on your PC or laptop, the phone's data is backed up on these folders. If your phone uses an automatic syncing process like Windows Mobile Sync, place pictures into the folder specified for your phone, and then sync your phone. The picture should show up in your phone once the sync is complete. If you don't have an automatic syncing phone, simply plug your phone into the USB port and find it as a drive in the "My Computer" folder. Once located, double click to open the phone's hard drive and locate the picture folder. You can transfer pictures from your PC directly to the phone using this method.

    Memory Cards

Many phones now come with the option to add removable flash memory. If you have a card reader on your computer, simply add any pictures you'd like onto the memory card in the pictures folder and replace it in your phone. Once in your phone, check the pictures folder to find all your pictures.
