    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Sleep Number Beds Have Parts that Could Break

Starting at $800, compared with a good innerspring mattress at $300, as of 2009, Sleep Number beds are risky to buy. A common complaint from people who've written in to ConsumerAffairs.com is that the air pumps, required for this bed, break, and that Select Comfort charges to send a new or refurbished pump, an added cost. Sleep Number bed owners also complained to ConsumerAffairs.com about the bed's tendency to dip in the middle, causing a trench.

On the Other: Sleep Number Beds are Popular

Because people can adjust the bed's firmness, and because two people can adjust each side differently, this bed is popular, and the only option besides twin beds for people who have drastically different ideas of comfort. The Better Business Bureau gives Select Comfort Corporation a B+ rating.

    Bottom Line

Sleep Number beds could potentially create problems for their owners if the air pump breaks or if the bed dips in the middle. This bed is too expensive to warrant the complaints against it.
