Though Makita doesn't offer a wide variety of polishing tools, its 9227 Circular Polisher is, by many accounts, the most-used polisher by professional detailers. It gets high marks in a review on Autopia.org for its powerful dual-action polishers and electronic speed control. Buzzillions.com, which gets reviews from targeted buyers, reports that owners generally love their Makita polishers.
On the Other: They Aren't Cheap
While they're arguably the best on the market, Makita's 9227 Circular Polishers usually sell for around $210 (as of December, 2009). By comparison, a Ryobi 10" Orbital Buffer costs roughly $30. The $180 difference could buy you some additional hardware.
Bottom Line
For true enthusiasts, $210 isn't a lot to pay for top quality; it's well worth the investment. If, on the other hand, you only need a polisher for a few small jobs, the price of admission is too high.
