According to author Matt Keegan, a contributor to pitstopautoparts.com, bug deflectors work. Citing his experience driving through the southern United States, Keegan points out that bug deflectors might not only deflect bugs, but small stones and rock chips as well.

On the Other: They Aren't Perfect

According to life-excellence.com, a bug deflector does not keep all bugs off of your vehicle's hood and windshield. Some insects will get past the bug deflector. Some rock chips will still hit your windshield, as well.

    Bottom Line

Bug deflectors serve a purpose, but they won't deflect all of the bugs that will smear on your vehicle. A car bra (or a hood protector) might work even better for your vehicle.
