Roman blinds, also known as Roman shades, are window treatments made of soft fabric. While they serve the same purpose as other window shades, Roman blinds are popular for their elegance and beauty.
Function
Designed to hang vertically, Roman blinds have horizontal segments that fold into pleats when raised.
Features
A cord pulls Roman shades up or down, with the pleated sections available in flat or tear drop shapes.
Uses
Roman blinds may be used alone and fitted outside the window frame, or they may be positioned inside the window recess and used with drapes or other top treatments for added layers.
Considerations
Fabric thickness will determine the amount of light allowed to enter the window. Thin fabrics will merely diffuse the light, while heavier fabrics will provide greater shading. Darkening liners may be added to ensure complete light blockage.
Types
Roman blinds are available in a variety of colors, sizes, styles, and textures. Fabric typically comes in sheer, semi-sheer, semi-opaque, or opaque. Fabric patterns may include any design, from stripes to weaves to even decorative designs and images.
