  • Trane filters are available in a wide range of filtration for particles from the air. TraneEffects filters can be cleaned and re-used.

    Vacuum and Rinse

Trane filters should be cleaned every three to nine months. The amount of time between cleanings will depend on how often the system is being used. Monitor the filters for buildup of dust. Do not allow the filter to become so dirty that it reduces air flow. This will require the air cleaner or HVAC unit to use more energy to pull air through the system, resulting in higher utility bills. Find the door in the unit where the filter is located. The area should be well-marked on the unit as well as noted in the owner's manual. Slide the door open and slowly pull out the filter so minimal dust is bumped off the filter. The filter can be vacuumed, rinsed or both. It may be best to vacuum the filter before moving it far from the air cleaner or HVAC system. Vacuum the incoming air side first to remove the majority of the dust. Then vacuum the other side to remove any particles that may have been dislodged while vacuuming the first side. Rinse the filter outside with a hose or indoors in a tub. Place the filter with the incoming air side down and run warm water through the filter. Start from the top and slowly rinse to the bottom. Allow most of the water to drain off the filter and then blot with towels to remove as much of the excess water as possible. Make sure the filter is dry before placing it back in the air cleaner or HVAC system.
