  • PayPal offers a secure online payment option that provides tools for sellers and protects the private financial information of buyers. If you want to make a PayPal payment funded partially by two different credit cards, there is a bit of a work-around.

    Plan Ahead

PayPal payments are generally made using one funding source. You can have several funding sources associated with your PayPal account, credit or debit cards or bank accounts, but each transaction will take funds from just one account. The way to use two is to add some of the funds to your PayPal account a few days before you make the purchase, so that part of the funding for the transaction will be taken from the balance of your PayPal account. This transfer may take a few days, so it's best to plan ahead. You will need even more time if both of the cards you want to use are not already associated with your PayPal account.

    Add Funds to PayPal Account

Decide how much you want to pay from the first credit card. Log in to PayPal and click on "Add Funds" in the menu below the "Account" tab. Choose "Add funds from a U.S. bank account" from the menu that drops down. Select the bank account or credit card you want to use, type in the amount you want to transfer and click on "Continue." Make sure the information is correct and click on "Submit." This will transfer a portion of the full amount you want to eventually pay directly into your PayPal account.

    Confirm Transfer of Funds

A note should tell you how long to expect the transfer to take. Check back at PayPal after that time period has elapsed. Log in and check the balance of your PayPal account. If the balance reflects the transfer of funds, proceed with the next step. If it doesn't, check back again until the transfer has taken effect.

    Make Transaction

Make the transaction you want to fund with the two credit cards. This may be sending funds to someone via email, or it may be a shopping cart purchase from a website that uses PayPal as one of its payment options. Make sure that the funding source will be the PayPal balance, and the second funding source should be the second credit card you wanted to use to fund the other portion of the total transaction amount. Thus, the transaction has been funded by your two credit cards.
