Many types of common cleaning products can cause damage to both types of tops and should be avoided. These include ammonia, detergent, alcohol, vinegar and bleach. Harsh cleaners will deteriorate a canvas top, and they will dry out and cloud vinyl.

Just because your convertible top looks clean, it doesn't mean that it is. Darker colors such as black tops make it even harder to detect dirt.
