Copper sinks are a popular metal choice for kitchen sinks because of their beauty, strength, durability and cleanliness. They are typically available in two mounting styles: under mount and farm style.
Style
Hammered copper sinks are handmade and offer a unique look. Copper sinks are hand-pounded into shape and have an Early American appearance that blends well with all decorating styles. The hand-pounded copper is sturdier and of better quality than manufactured copper sinks.
Aging
Time and use make copper age. As the metal ages, it develops an even richer, warmer glow.
Weight
Coppersmiths typically leave the metal unusually thick for a sink to increase the strength of the finished product. This makes copper the most durable type of metal sink. It is also very heavy, so help may be needed when lifting the sink into place.
Ease of Care
Copper does not stain easily. Daily maintenance is fast and simple--just wash with soap and water.
Antibacterial
Copper is a natural antibacterial agent that helps keep at bay certain E. coli bacteria, according to Dr. Bill Keevil at the Centre for Applied Microbiology & Research (CAMR).
