    Methods of Instruction

    Academic Camps

    Academic camps are offered during school breaks. They are one to two weeks long. The small group sessions focus on reading, writing and math lessons.

    Homework Help

    Homework help is offered on a flexible schedule. Instructors provide the organization and extra instruction students need to complete assignments.

    Test Preparation

    Sylvan Learning prepares students for state assessments, such as the California Standards Tests (CST), the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). Preparation classes for the ACT and SAT college entrance exams are also offered.

    Progress Assessment

    Students are assessed for academic strengths and areas of need before beginning a program of study. Periodic retesting, progress reports and conferences give students and parents a measurement of the progress being made.
