Propoxyphene napsylate is an opioid narcotic pain reliever that blocks receptors on your brain and spinal cord that sense pain. Acetaminophen prevents the production of chemicals known as prostaglandins that transmit pain signals and promote inflammation.

Uses

Doctors prescribe propo-n/apap 100-650 for the relief of mild or moderate pain, especially when the discomfort is accompanied with fever.

Time Frame

Doctors typically prescribe 100mg of propo-n/apap 100-650 for use every four hours for as long as pain persists, reports the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Side Effects

Common side effects of propo-n/apap 100-650 include dizziness, sedation, nausea and vomiting. Some patients develop a chemical dependence upon propo-N APAP 100-650, and there is also a risk of liver or kidney damage associated with use of the drug, warns the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Considerations

When taken by pregnant women, there is a risk for babies being born addicted to prpropo-n/apap 100-650. If you have a history of kidney or liver problems, substance abuse, depression or an allergy to acetaminophen, it may not be safe for you to take propo-n/apap 100-650, warns the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
