Sold by McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Tylenol Sinus is an oral medication available over-the-counter without a doctor's prescription. Tylenol Sinus is indicated for the relief of symptoms caused by a number of conditions that affect your respiratory system.
Types of Ingredients
Tylenol Sinus contains three active ingredients--acetaminophen, guaifenesin and phenylephrine hydrochloride.
Function
Acetaminophen alleviates pain, reduces inflammation and lowers fevers by blocking the production of chemicals in your body known as prostaglandins. Guaifenesin loosens chest congestion, while phenylephrine hydrochloride alleviates a build-up of mucus in your sinuses.
Uses
Tylenol Sinus is intended to relieve the symptoms of the common cold, hay fever and other types of allergies, according to the makers of the drug.
Dosage
The manufacturer's directions suggest taking two Tylenol Sinus tablets every four hours, not exceeding twelve tablets within 24 hours.
Considerations
Women who are pregnant or nursing should not take Tylenol Sinus without first consulting a doctor, and the drug is not safe for children under the age of 12. If you have a history of liver or heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, thyroid disease, prostate enlargement or a cough due to asthma, smoking or lung disease, it may not be safe for you to take Tylenol Sinus, warns the makers of the drug.
