Soaps remove oils from your skin and can cause dryness. Pure soaps that do not contain moisturizers as well as soaps that are grainy (exfoliating) are most likely to dry out your skin. Other soaps can still dry your skin if you do not use lotions or creams after washing.

On the Other: Moisturizing Soaps can Help

Soap and water are your best defense against germs, fungus and blemishes. If you use moisturizing soaps that have a high level of lotion in them, you can avoid dryness. Using even a pure soap, you can battle skin dryness by simply using a moisturizer each time you wash with soap.

    Bottom Line

Soaps can cause dryness. However, for hygienic reasons soap can be more helpful than harmful. Pure soap used alone can dry out your skin, but with proper skincare you should not experience any dryness. Using moisturizers to replace the oils in the skin that soap has removed can create the desired balance.
