You can build a computer that is compatible with Apple Macintosh software and install an Apple operating system on it. This so-called " Hackintosh" can be tricky to build, but for computer savvy people who are willing to put in the time and effort, it can be accomplished.

On the Other: There Are Legal Issues

Although building a Hackintosh is technically feasible, Apple frowns on the practice and recently won a court decision on the matter. In November 2009, a California judge ruled that Psystar, a Miami based computer company, had infringed on Apple copyrights when it placed an Apple operating system on Psystar computers.

    Bottom Line

A technically proficient individual can build a clone of a Macintosh computer but should be aware that, because of the legal issues involved, he does so at his own risk.
