Despite rumors that the aglet--the plastic tip on the end of a shoelace--was invented by a man named Eddie Aglet, this is unsubstantiated. In truth, no one knows for certain which culture is responsible for the aglet (let alone who invented it), but the word itself comes from the Old French word "aguille," which means "needle."
