For your HDTV to work at optimal quality, an HDMI cable is the only way to go, as it is the way to get the clearest digital picture. If you buy, say, a component cable, because it's cheaper, you will not get the 120-hertz picture you're looking for.

On the Other: No, You Don't

While the HDMI cable is necessary, the difference between expensive versions and cheap versions of this cable are minuscule if not nonexistent. Gizmodo tested the difference between these cables, and over a short distance, they were almost equal, despite a price difference of more than $100.

    Bottom Line

The more expensive HDMI cable will get you the best picture, but a cheaper cable will, for all intents and purposes, do the job just as well. Stick with the cheaper cable, and spend your money elsewhere.
