<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: They let water through
Micro mesh pool covers allow rain and melting snow to drain through into the pool, while keeping out twigs, leaves and other debris. Unlike a solid cover, there is no need to pump water off the top periodically. As there is no standing water, leaves don't gather and rot, leaving a mess to clear up before the pool can be reopened.
On the Other: They can fill the pool
In times of heavy rain or snow storms, water going through the mesh can fill the pool, leading to problems with freezing pipework and damaged liners. An hour of heavy rain can top off a pool by about two inches. At times such as these, the cover has to be removed and the pool drained to a level below the skimmers.
Bottom Line
If the pool is drained to a level such that even the heaviest rain won't cause a problem, and the slight extra cost isn't prohibitive, the micro mesh cover is a better way to keep the pool clean over the wintertime.
