There have been many innovations in lawn tractors over the years. Hydrostatic transmissions, reverse cutting options and push-button blade height controls are a few of the newer features offered. Craftsman lawn tractors have some of these options, but according to Popular Mechanics, Craftsman's best features include a wide blade deck designed to allow for close cutting, and easy oil filter access.
On the Other: Limited Innovations
Many people prefer non-lever controls for adjusting blade height, larger motors and fuel tanks, and peripheral electronics for monitoring battery life and fuel usage. The Craftsman lawn tractor is considered to be a throw-back to the original lawn tractors, with its hand-operated blade height lever and lack of push-button functions.
Bottom Line
Choosing between a Craftsman lawn tractor and another manufacturer will depend on the user's need for more advanced controls and dials for monitoring the machine's functions. However, the Craftsman line of lawn tractors as a rule provides all the basic functionality to handle the job.
