Types
Optivar.com reports that Optivar is distributed in a 0.05 percent solution form that is applied by way of a dropper. It is not available as a pill or tablet.
Dosage
The manufacturer's recommended dose is one drop per eye, administered twice a day. Optivar should not be used while wearing contacts as the contacts may absorb the medication and become discolored.
Side Effects
Drugs.com notes that although an overdose is highly unlikely with Optivar, there are some potential side effects. These side effects include mild burning, headache and bitter taste in the mouth.
Warnings
Revolutionhealth.com reports that Optivar should not be used in combination with other treatments that include azelastine ophthalmic. The dropper should not be allowed to come in contact with the hands or any surface or it may cause an eye infection.
