A lasix renogram is a test where a radioactive substance is introduced into the body to check your kidneys and renal function.
Function
A lasix renogram demonstrates how well the blood moves through the kidneys and how long it takes for urine to pass from the body.
Significance
The radioactive substance, or tracer, is put into the body via the arm. It then travels through the body in about 24 hours.
Features
You will also be injected with a medication called Lasix. This stimulates your urine flow as it passes from your kidneys to your bladder.
Time Frame
You will be under a camera for 35 to 45 minutes as images are taken of your body. You must not move during the exam. A renogram takes about an hour.
Benefits
Once your images are completed, a radiologist will discuss the results with you. A renogram is not dangerous and you are exposed to about the same amount of radiation as a routine X-ray.
