Would you rather have one of your legs amputated or just be allowed to die from the infection it caused?

    I'd rather have my leg amputated. I can always learn how to get around without it whether with a prosthetic or in a wheelchair or on crutches.

    BTW: My dad is an amputee - left leg below the knee.

    Been there, done that.

    My lower leg was amputated because of an accident, but my upper leg was damaged too and I had bone infections in my femur and pelvis. I had two more amputations above the knee because the infection was out of control, and part of my pelvis was also removed.

    Bone infections suck big time. Gangrene sucks big time. The pain and fear that I went through because of infection was indescribable. The horror of debridements and of having a part of you dead and decaying and with no hope of good function is something I never want to relive. Being an amputee is really OK, and having my leg amputated was an incredible relief. The pain of my second and third amputations was way less traumatic than the pointless agony of trying to save more of my leg and living with a longer but painful and unusable stump.

    I would rather die personally. I personally would not want to live as a freak for the rest of my life. This is just my opinion. This is how I would personally feel missing a leg. This is not an insult to anyone else with this disability.
