Depression is a horrible mental illness that can cause people to feel sad all the time, down, teary eyed, angry, and even suicidal. Add to that the symptoms of anxiety, and the combination can be devastating. Anxious depression may be something that is difficult to pinpoint, but being honest with your doctor and evaluating your own symptoms can help.
Who
About 40 percent of all severely depressed people actually have anxious depression. Anyone can become depressed, and it is common to find that among most people with depression, there is a family history of it.
Mental
People who suffer from anxious depression may feel worthless and pessimistic. Feeling guilty, worrying, and having a difficult time enjoying the things they would normally enjoy are also common.
Appetite
People with anxious depression may experience a great lack of appetite, making eating difficult.
Sleep
Anxious depression can cause sleep problems such as waking frequently, and not sleeping soundly.
Nerves
Restlessness and and feeling agitated are common for people suffering from anxious depression.
Order of Symptoms
Most often the first symptoms someone with anxious depression may experience are the symptoms of the anxiety. Social phobia and general anxiety are both common to precede the depression. If the anxious depression involves a panic disorder, it's usually the depression that occurs first.
