<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Recognized Benefits
Propecia is an FDA-approved treatment for male-pattern baldness. By reducing dihydrotesterone (DHT), the chemical in the body that shrinks hair follicles and inhibits hair growth, Propecia can help reduce the risk of hair loss. It may protect against hair loss in the frontal and mid-scalp anterior areas but does not improve receding hairlines at the temples.
On the Other: Potential Problems
The makers of Propecia admit that their product does not help with hair loss at the temples. Side effects have been reported by only 1.3 percent of users and are very rare. Propecia is intended to treat mild to moderate hair loss and may not help in extreme cases.
Bottom Line
For mild to moderate hair loss in the frontal and mid-scalp anterior regions Propecia can help, but for receding hairlines at the temples Propecia does not work. Propecia reduces DHT which is the chemical responsible for shrinking hair follicles and inhibiting growth.
