Materials
The makeup of 18/10 stainless steel is 18 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel.
Finishing
The stainless steel flatware finish comes in matte, which is a softer, satiny look, and shiny, which is a mirrored finish. Two- toned finishes incorporate two different finishes or materials together, such as satin and shiny or shiny and gold.
Advantages
Purchasing 18/10 stainless steel flatware will provide years of care-free use with a higher resistance to stain and pitting on the pieces than other types of flatware.
Care
If hand washing, use warm water with mild soap and a mild sponge. Do not let the flatware soak for extended periods of time. If using a dishwasher, use chlorine free dishwasher detergent with limited additives.
Mark
On some pieces, a stamp may be found on the back of the piece, The company name, the words "stainless" or "stainless steel" may also be found, as well as the numbers of the steel makeup, such as 18/10.
