<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Iodine is necessary for healthy hair
According to the Mayo Clinic, adults typically need about 150 micrograms of iodine each day. Iodine keeps the thyroid glands healthy, which control the metabolism. Without enough iodine, metabolisms slow, resulting in slower cell production. Slow cell production leads to thinning hair.
On the Other: Iodine will not help regrow hair
Iodine regulates your cell growth and will help you keep the hair you have, but cannot regrow hair that is already lost.
Bottom Line
While iodine helps fight hair loss, it will not regrow hair that has already been lost. It's also important to note that too much iodine or the wrong type of the mineral will slow the metabolism, resulting in faster hair loss. To keep the hair that's still there, it's important to get 150 mcg of iodine each day from natural sources such as strawberries, eggs, cow's milk, mozzarella, yogurt and kelp.
