According to the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center in Arizona, the bee is by far the best pollinator. Its fuzzy abdomen is a perfect place for pollen to cling to.
Native Plants
If you want to attract bees, native plants are always the best choice. Wherever you live you'll find plants that are naturally specific to your area. Native plants are the perfect food source for native bees.
Garden Plants
Some garden plants that are bee-friendly are basil, hyssop, English lavender and zinnia, to name just a few. Plant them among your native plants.
Hybrid Plants
Many plants today are hybrid, and are not a good source of pollen or nectar, which is the very thing that attracts bees. Avoid using hybrids if you want to draw bees to your flowers.
Pollen
A balanced source of protein and fats, pollen is food for the bee. It is also responsible for creating new seeds that will become future plants.
Nectar
This is the sweet part of the plant, and is the attractor for bees and other pollinators. As pollinators drink the nectar, they come into contact with pollen, which clings to them. When they fly to another flower to gather more nectar, they inadvertently pollinate that flower.
