    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, roxessence. (What's this?)

Post on your local Craigslist in the 'for sale' section under free, general, 'beauty and health' and household. Include pictures if you can...you'll get a better response.

Return it to the pharmacy in the safe box with all the syringes. I need to take all my husbands stuff back. They dispose of everything like that for you.

I applaud your desire to do something worthy with the medication.

However, you cannot just give such medication away. There are a LOT of issues to consider, both on your part and on the potential recipient's part. You aren't a doctor who can prescribe it. The recipient doesn't have any guarantee that the insulin was properly stored and maintained, or even not tampered with. There are lots of liability issues here.

If you won't dispose of such medication yourself, then contact your pharmacist and your doctor (or your Mom's doctor) and ask them what to do, considering your desires. They will tell you what you should do or what your choices are limited to legally.

This isn't to say that you cannot give the medication away anyway, perhaps to another diabetic relative. However, the medication wasn't prescribed for anyone other than your Mom...and the legal liability issues still hang over your head as a result.

God bless you for this...but DON'T give the medication to anyone else without first contacting those people and learning more.

First of all I'm sorry to hear of your mom's passing. For the most part, no you cant give it away. Even though "regular" insulin is available without a prescription, it is still a substance that could cause someone else harm if used inappropriately. You can return it to any medical facility that can re-distribute it properly. Before attempting to sell or give away insulin, be sure to contact your state's board of pharmacy.

Well you should try to sell them to someone who needs it, or even be more generous and just give it to them for free. If not take them to the doctors office explain the situation and maybe they can take them.
