Problems powering my home theater with a computer PSU.

I have a 250 watt car stereo amp to power my home stereo. I am powering the amp with an 800 watt computer PSU. I have it connected correctly (I believe). When I plug in the PSU the amp comes on, but when I turn on the stereo the PSU shuts off. What could be causing this?

You have to check your home theater first, internally using test gears. Also make sure cables are properly plugged in. After all, it still won't work, have your next step on its manufacturer.

That's a satisfactory question. An issue that has been inquired into for the past several months by myself, too. I need to pronounce this question that you have just asked is not a little trouble question to be put to rest.

most likely its not all plugged in or you have plugged it in wrong. if thats not the case the best thing would to be bring it back to where you got it and get a new one or use a diffrent computer :) hope you have good luck!

this isnt a problem with wattage but a problem of current. And automobile amp is ment to run on DC current a computer power unit is ment to run on AC current. you will have to find a special power inverter to convert the power from your home so it can power the amp properly. I know it may seem like that since the amp powers on that isnt the case, but remember you really arent running any power thru it until you plug the speakers in. The only power the amp is using at that moment is for a puny light. your best bet is to go buy a decent surround sound reciever, it will cost you much less than an inverter and will work just fine.
