Help answer this question below.
You know, I always wondered why they celebrated Christmas, but you helped me look at the question in a novel and interesting way. As SoulFire said, Jesus' miracles do seem magical, so it's not difficult to imagine wizards respecting him for that alone.
However, if we look at the books as they were written, there's no mention of Jesus or any other religious figures. It seems to me that the wizards celebrated Christmas just because they were following tradition and they saw the holiday as a time to enjoy their families.
Jesus, as the son of Yahweh, is above the level of a wizard and still demands wizards and witches to worship Him. His power is the power of the gods, not magic. Gods > Magic
The Harry Potter books are great because they bring a sense of realism and history to fairy-tales and the various magical elements of history. Witch burnings are played off as a comical nuisance. Merlin becomes a "real" man. Nicholas Flamel and Agrippa become actual alchemists. Circe becomes a greek diviner. We're supplied with dates and facts and all sorts of fun background information to make mythical history "real history."
JK Rowling was wise not to address religious "magical" stories in the novels. I can assure you that she did this on purpose. The backlash from ALL of the religious communities would have been enormous. Instead, she left this particular detail up to the reader's imagination. In the "Potterverse," a universe that provides explanation for magic, it is entirely possible that Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Siddhartha, Mohammed, and every other religious figure that performed "miracles" could in fact be a "Wizard."
But we'll NEVER find out due to the public outcry such an answer would inspire.
Jesus was God's only son and he did do miracles, just mot "magical" ones. Muggle isn't really the right word to put him as, and calling him a wizard is...well....honestly in my opinion is ridiculous. If u called him a wizard, thats basically saying that his miracles had nothing to do with God (unless u believe that and was really wondering if it was magic or fony....ur question not mine)The Bible mentioned absolutely NOTHING about jesus performing magic...it actually says in the bible not to use witchcraft. So either they used it in the series just because there were presents involed (some people just celebrate for presents), the author was a christian and wanted to put christmas in there, or the celebrated his birth because they believed in him, which would make him so much more than just a "muggle"
Doesn't matter if Jesus was a wizard or a muggle, he is considered the son of God which is what the holiday was based on. After it was stolen from the pagans who worshiped the rebirth of their God at that time.
But think about it this way, Jesus could walk on water and heal people. Sounds like magic to me.
i have no idea!!
Do they celebrate Christmas? Or do they just celebrate the traditional midwinter feast of yule, but call it by the muggle name because that is easy? I never saw any sign of Christian beliefs in their midwinter feasting.
What should an introduction include?
