Question

Help answer this question below.

Can you press charges on someone who molested you as a child? Proof provided.

Situation: Mother left me in husbands care (not father) who brother molested me. All adults around at the time knew it and did nothing. Told me to tell him to stop. I was 4 and scared. They abandoned me, I was alone for about two days. Social services got me and I went under alot of therepy and an investigation went on. I don't know if this man faced charges. How do I find out? My heart breaks when I think he may still be doing this. I found this man. What can I do now? I need justice and closure.

You can. But it's very unlikely it'l prove successful. Most Da's won't touch that due to the statute of limitations.

    Dear Friend,

Go to the Police Department and file a report, they have to take it. I would then call the district attorney's office immediately. Be clear on what you are asking so that the receptionist can find the right Deputy, D.A., for you. I am sure that you will find that person very helpful, not to mention interested in what you have to say. Also contact every newspaper in your area. Tell them your story, even if they can't print it now, they might keep notes on file. It has been my experience that journalist are wonderful, kind and objective, who have a sincere interest in the human condition. Be sure and call the smaller papers too, they need good human interest stories. Remember your story can always be told without revealing names and places.

It is my understanding that if a person becomes aware of abuse, through therapy, regaining memories, hypnosis, for example, then you may be able to waive the statute of limitations.

I would strongly suggest that you ignore people who tell you to, "get over it"! While it is important to move past abuse with the help of trained mental health professionals, and or clergy, the offenders are still responsible for their crimes. I know and understand being a survivor myself. Child abusers are like any other criminal, as time passes they begin to feel, 'safe", as it were. Trust me that is far from the truth. Sometimes the older the case the closer the perpetrator is to going to jail!

Take care of business and take good care of you!
